About the Benevolent Association
Supporting Those Who Serve Since 1938
The Volunteer Firefighters Benevolent Association of Millwood, NY was established in 1938 to support the men and women who volunteer their time, training, and service to protect the Millwood community.
For more than eight decades, the Benevolent Association has been dedicated to supporting the welfare of past and present members of the Millwood Fire Company and their families. Founded on the belief that a strong volunteer fire service depends on the strength, dedication, and well-being of its members, the Association provides assistance, benefits, and programs that recognize the sacrifices made by volunteer firefighters and help sustain their commitment to service.
While the Association’s primary beneficiaries are volunteer firefighters and their families, its mission directly supports the broader Millwood community. By promoting firefighter welfare, retention, preparedness, and readiness, the Association helps ensure that trained and dedicated emergency responders remain available to provide fire protection and emergency services when residents need them most.
The Benevolent Association plays an important supporting role alongside the Millwood Fire Company by helping maintain a strong and engaged volunteer membership. Through member benefits, financial assistance, recognition programs, and activities that promote fellowship and camaraderie, the Association helps strengthen the foundation of the volunteer fire service and encourages continued participation by current and future generations of firefighters.
The Association also hosts and supports community and member events, including holiday gatherings, summer picnics, annual inspections, and awards ceremonies, providing opportunities to recognize service, build relationships, and strengthen the bonds among members, families, and the greater fire service community.
As a nonprofit organization, the Volunteer Firefighters Benevolent Association of Millwood, NY is committed to responsible stewardship of its resources and ensuring that its programs continue to support those who serve. Through more than 85 years of dedication, the Association remains committed to preserving the tradition of volunteer service and helping ensure that Millwood’s firefighters are supported, prepared, and ready to answer the call.

Member Benefits
Members in good standing are eligible for the following benefits.
Medical / Health Reimbursement
All active members current in dues.
Copays, prescriptions, dental, hearing, eyecare, glasses, health and fitness, and physical therapy.
Up to $500 per year
Bereavement Support
All active members current in dues at the time of passing.
A death benefit and financial assistance to the family for bereavement support, such as funeral expenses.
Determined by the Board
Emergency & Financial Hardship
Members with at least 5 years of service.
Assistance for medical emergencies, family crises, or other unexpected financial hardship.
Determined by the Board
Annual Social Events and Gatherings
The Association may host, or co-host with the Company, events such as holiday parties, summer picnics, annual inspections, and awards ceremonies to promote camaraderie among members and their families. Invitations and event details will be communicated via email and posted at the firehouses.
General Policies & Guidelines
Fund Availability & Board Approval
All benefits are subject to availability of funds and approval by the Volunteer Firefighters Benevolent Association Trustees. Benefits cover direct out-of-pocket costs not covered by insurance, whether paid by the member or on their behalf by a spouse or family member.
Eligibility
Members must be in good standing and current on dues to receive any benefit. The Emergency & Financial Hardship benefit additionally requires at least 5 years of service.
Dues
Dues are generally $10 annually, in accordance with the Volunteer Firefighters Benevolent Association bylaws. Members must be current on dues to receive benefits.
Application Process
Submit the Application for Benefits Form along with proof of payment (receipts, invoices, or beneficiary information) to the Treasurer.
Annual Deadline
Claims for expenses incurred January through December must be received by March 31st of the following year.
Change of Address
Members are responsible for notifying the Secretary of any change to their address or contact information.
